Time for Reflection

1)  We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why were they difficult/easy?

2) What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?

3)  Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?

4)  What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?

5)  Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.

  1. 1) Out of all the concepts I think that the Properties were the easiest. It was the easiest because you just needed little practice. Charts were the hardest concept because for some problems, I couldn't understand the problem.
    2) Some strategies that helped me keep up with the materials were practicing more. Outside of class I have a tutor, she helps me out in problems that I don't understand.
    3) I know what each concepts are but I have some problems in charts.
    4) I think I could study a little more harder to understand the materials. I also think I should review over what I have learnt each class.
    5) I will do all the reviews for each chapter to make sure if I am sure about this part. Another way is to look through all the tests and test corrections

    1) Out of all the concepts, I think making chart was the hardest. This was because chart question sometimes had tricky questions that made me confusing. Because, I didn't understand the question, I cannot fill in the chart, which means that I need to get one wrong from the assignment. The easiest was factoring because even though, there are some tricky answers, most of them are easy and quite simple.

    2) Some strategies that helped me keep up with the materials in this fast- moving exercise is to look back at my notes and practice at my home. I always look at my note and see the questions to refresh my memory. Also, I have a math tutor that is very helpful and teaches me what I don't know or confused.

    3) I mastered all the concepts by looking back at my notes and previewing my textbook. Sometimes, I learn from my tutor.

    4) I could spend more time on math when I rest at my home and visit Mr. Jobe's room more frequently so I can master the topic.

    5) I will prepare the math final by studying the textbook and review what we did in class. I will also going to go over the tests that we have taken and review it.

  3. 1) The most difficult for me to grasp were properties. It was difficult because there are so many properties that are similar. When I look at the properties notes, I think that I know them all. However, when I close my notebook, I can’t seem to remember anything. The most easy was distance, rate, time, charts. The question had all the ‘mini equations’ to the problem to solving. It was very easy.

    2) Homework, classwork, and review games have helped me keep me up with the material in this fast moving course. I like how we do classwork in class so that if we have any questions about the concept we can ask the teacher. The teacher is always available outside of class.

    3) Yes, I do feel like I have some foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge. I feel like I could master scientific notation more. However, I still understand the basic idea of the concepts we learn in class. I can also work harder on memorizing math properties.

I think the class is fit for learning. Mr. Jobe is always available outside of class. It’s very nice of him to help us on topic that we are weak on.

    5) I will complete the review sheet, review old tests, study old homework, and try solving some of the chapter test problems at the back of the textbook.

  4. 1) The hardest one for me was the scientific notation. I kept making mistakes when dividing them and if I make a single mistake, the whole problem turns to be wrong. The easiest were the properties because if you manage to learn what the properties are, it is easy

    2) Most of the time it was the homework and classwork that helped me keep up with this course. If I did not get H.W, I wouldn't have remembered anything I learnt. The review games helped me keep up with his fast-moving course as well. I only do my H.W outside of class and Mr. Jobe is available for help if any questions.

    3) I do have some foundational gaps. I need to work on my scientific notation and factoring. I understand most of the other concepts and know the basics of these. But I still need to work harder to master these concepts by doing some of the C.W more, etc.

    4) I totally aree with Selena. The class provides a perfect environment and is fit for learning. I cannot remember how many times I came in before school or after school to clear my doubts and Mr. Jobe has been there to help me out.

    5) I will review the problems we have done previously from the tests, reviews, HW and C.W. I am also going to attempt the Chapter reviews and chapter tests at the back of the textbook and try solving some of the other Mr.Jobe had not assigned us, such if the HW was 22-34 ev, I will try the 23-33 odds.

  5. 1. The Hardest thing for me is stupid mistakes. I add wrong, I cant even recognize my own writing, and I multiply wrong, divide wrong, etc. I am really dumb...

    2. I think that the tests let me remember all the thing sin this class. Thanks to the tests, I had to study for it, and that made me review and re look at all the things we learned in the whole algebra class.

    3. I dont think that I have any fundational gaps; just like I said in #1, I just make rally stupid mistakes when Im doing HW, or taking a test, quiz, etc. I really need to work on not making mistakes

    4. I think that the way were learning and the classroom is rally fit for us learning. Since we always do some kind of activity, I can always remember what I did.

    5. I will review all the problems on the tests i got, whether it is right or whether it is wrong. I bet this will help me much more in learning.

  6. 1) We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why were they difficult/easy?
The most difficult concept for me to grasp was the graphing of word problems, and the easiest concept for me to understand was how to simplify polynomials. It was difficult for me to do the graphs because it was confusing where I had to put the words (ex) d, r, t) on the graph (In the end I figured it out :D), and it was easy for me to learn how to simplify polynomials because there’s no concept we really have to know to do that, as long as we know how to add, subtract, divide, and multiply properly (which I hope we knew how to do).

    2) What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?
I think the best strategy that works for me to study math is to pay attention in class. Outside of class, I just finish all my homework in time and concentrate while doing so.

    3) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
I don’t think there are any concept I haven’t mastered in particular, and I think I can prove that by my near to perfect marks on our chapter tests.

    4) What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?
I think Mr. Jobe is doing a fantastic job to enable us to understand the class materials very well, but if I had to suggest something, maybe we can do more games in order to learn class material in an even more fun way than we already do? For example, a scavenger hunt? :DDD

    5) Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
Two ways I’ll prepare for the math final is to go through the past tests and questions I incorrectly answered and to thoroughly answer the final review questions that Mr. Jobe gave us

  7. 1. The hardest thing for me is to keep track of my foolish mistakes and careless errors. I tend not to find these mistakes because I tend to think that the answer is correct. The easiest part for me was the monomials and multiplying polynomials. I found this easy because I had already done some of it before and I found that multiplying polynomials came easier to me than other concepts.

    2. The strategies that I use to keep track with this fast paced class is to review what we learned on the day we learned it. This helps me because I can remember what we talked about in class.

    3. I think that I have done pretty well on the concepts and I understand all of the concepts. I think I know all of these concepts because I have done pretty well in this class.

    4. I think that this class is very fun and Mr. Jobe does a good job of teaching us and making sure we are prepared for tests. I think we can play more competitive math games because those are the games that force me to work hard on a question.

    5. I usually study for the final by going over my old tests and quizzes. This helps me because I get to see where I made foolish mistakes. Another way I study is to go over the chapter reviews in the textbook and I usually go to the chapters that I did not do well on.

  8. 1. The hardest topic for me this semester was factoring because even though I knew the concept of it, I never actually learned it. Also, there were so many new terms. Factoring was also somewhat confusing because there are so many ways to solve a factoring question. The easiest topic was equations because this was kind of like a review, just a bit harder, from Pre-Algebra.

    2. I think reviewing was the most helpful strategy. Apart from actually solving the problems, I review the questions I already solved before. Inside of class, asking questions for things I don't know or understand is very helpful. When it is outside of class, just going back to Mr. Jobe's room is the most helpful because he always answers my questions whenever I need help.

    3. I still have a few foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge. Sometimes, I seem to forget a concept if I don’t review things. Although I might understand a topic, I sometimes make some silly calculation mistakes from time to time.

    4. I cannot think about any particular improvements that could be made. Mr. Jobe explains the material very well. However, I do want more board review games that will improve my skills and speed.

    5. The first way I will prepare for my mathematics final is to go through and review the past tests and quizzes that I received. I think reviewing those tests will help me a lot. The second reason I will prepare for my math final is to solve more questions from the topics I do not understand fully or forgot. I believe reviewing and solving will help me a lot for my mathematics final.

  9. 1) We have studied quite a few things this semester, and I think the most difficult one was learning the properties because I had learned it a long time ago, and I grew accustomed to it until it was not a "property" but "common sense," so I had to look over the properties all over again, which was sort of difficult. The easiest and most exciting part were the word problems. I love solving word problems because they are interesting, complex(sometimes), and much more exciting than merely solving equations.

2)Actually, I study Korean math on my own, so I guess that helps me with math. Also, I tried hard to get used to the Math terms by making note cards and memorizing them on the bus.

3)I can't say I understand everything perfectly because I have forgotten many concepts that we learned at the beginning of the term. I guess I am just human. However, as I reviewed them, I remembered mostly all we learned, so there aren't any gaps.

4)Instead of having reviews just for the chapter we learned, I think it would be wonderful if we could review what we learned in previous chapters as well, so that we can remember what we learned and have less burden to study for our finals.

5)Firstly, I will go over all the notes I took in class. This includes important points Mr. Jobe told us during class, some individual thoughts, a few stars here and there showing what is important, etc. Secondly, I will try and solve all the questions Mr. Jobe gave us for homework and also look through previous worksheets as well. I hope this will be enough!

  10. 1) We have covered a lot of ground so far in this class. Out of all of the concepts we've covered, what has been the most difficult for you to grasp? What has been the easiest? Why were they difficult/easy?
The charts were the most difficult, and the expressions and equations were the easiest. The charts were difficult because you had to memorize what to write in each box in different kind of word problems. Cost, value, rate, etc. Expressions and equations were very easy because we covered them in 6th and 7th grade. I am very confident.

    2) What strategies have helped you keep up with the material in this fast-moving course? Is there anything you do inside or outside of class that helps you?
I check notes every night before the day we have class, so I can remember what we learned in the previous class. I go to math hagwon, but it has a different course.

    3) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts from class that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest. If not, how do you know you have mastered all of the concepts?
I do understand the concepts. I just sometimes get confused with the boxes I have to fill in when solving charts.
    4) What improvements could be made in class to better help you understand the material?
I should try a lot of those problems so I can solve however the problem comes out as.
    5) Name at least two ways that you will prepare for your mathematics final.
Checks notes from the start of the year, and practice my weaknesses which is finding examples from the textbook and looking at hw and word problems.

  11. 1.) Making tables out of the word problems were the hardest for me. This is because you need to understand the problem fully in order to put information in the chart. If you don't know the problem well and understand them, it is going to be hard to fill up the charts. The easiest was simplifying expressions and equation. This is because if you are careful and double checking your work, you will solve it and get points easily. Also, you need to know the order of operations well.

    2) I always have notes on what we do in class, and have every warm up and classwork in my notebook. When I have tests, I always look back in my notes to make sure I get the materials.

    3) I still have gaps in concepts that we learned. For example, I think I forgot the properties name. I am really bad at memorizing, so that is why even if j memorize all, I forget it after the test.

    4) I really liked it when Mr.Jobe made a chart for the chapter 5 test review. I hope we get more worksheets so that we can practice more example problems.

    5) First I will go over the notes I took. Then, I will go over the problems I did for warn up, classwork, and homework. After that, I will go over my test. Finally, I will redo all of the problems and solve chapter review in the textbook.

  12. 1) I thought making equations and tables out of word problems were the hardest for me. I was always confused on how to set up a correct equation with the variables and number at it’s correct place. I think the easiest would be factoring. It felt like it was busy because I had studied for factoring. I practiced by solving some problems at home.

    2) I feel like I didn’t really do much but then about in the end, I started trying harder than before. I solved some problems other than the homework, and also solved few homework over and over.

    3) I still feel I have to study more to master any of the things we learned. I so know how to do it, but some parts i just don’t feel confident.

    4) I think I should put more effort into math class, by always completing home works and assignments on time and also going over what I did and studying everyday.

    5) I will go over some past home works I did and solve the study guide 2 times or more.
