Equation #4

9 comments:

  1. Bob lives in a rental house, collecting stamps everyday. The owner of the house takes away same amount of stamps everyday for the rent. The first day he has eight stamps but the owner of the house takes away some stamps. The second day he collected 6 stamps but the house owner takes away the stamps. But, on the third day, the stamps he had on the first day all got blown away by the wind. At the end of three days, he has 1 stamp left. How many stamps does the owner take away everyday?

  5. The story did fit with your equation a little, but not fully. Bob collecting stamps everyday and the stamps being blown away was realistic, though! The story was kind of functional. At first, I was confused if I had to put in parenthesis or not. The story is creative, but it could have been better if you did something like "stealing" instead of "taking." It could have been more interesting! :) The positive points about the equation was that the story was realistic and simple. It did take me some time to realize that the parenthesis were needed, but other from that, your equation was great.
    Grammar mistakes (fixed) :
The owner of the house takes away THE same amount of stamps everyday for the rent.
The first day he HAD eight stamps but the owner of the house TOOK away some stamps.
The second day he collected 6 stamps but the house owner TOOK away the same amount of stamps he took on the first day.
At the end of THE three days, he haD 1 stamp left.
How many stamps dID the owner take away everyday?

  6. Yes the story fits the equation and is functional. But I wouldn't want to write this equation from this. I think it was a little confusing. I had to read several times to understand the equation. As the top I didn't know if I should have put parenthesis for this equation. I don't think the story is interesting. I think you could have made the story more fun. I liked how when I understood it I could solve the problem easily. The equation makes sense.

We think that the story fit the equation, but it was sort of hard to understand "The owner of the house takes away same amount of stamps everyday for the rent." because we first thought that the owner of the house was taking the same amount of stamps as Bob collects, which would be zero, so we got confused. I think it would be better if you said, "The owner of the house takes away the same amount of stamps he regularly collect everyday for the rent."

Other than that, we were surprised at how we could write the equation just by reading your story. I think you story could improve if you put some other character that we might know like Stitch, not Bob. I think you did a nice job in writing the story, but we think you could put some "humor" in the story by inserting a widely known character.

    Well done!

  8. Sponge Bob collects action figurines and wants to make a complete set to play with. The first day he goes to the store and buys 8 action figurines. But his Patrick steals some of the figurines to spite him. The next day he goes to the store again and buys 6 figurines. Once again, his sister takes the same number of figurines she took on the first day. The last day he does not buy any but loses the amount of figurines he had left on the first day. On the fourth day, he counted his figurines, and there was only one left. How many figurines does his sister take every day?
